"Jets have talked to the Canadiens on and off about Dubois, we know that Dubois is gonna end up there 95%, is there someway we can make a deal so the Canadiens get him earlier and we get something we want? They've talked about that"

Go Sabres.

Helps the Habs stay in 5th for the draft, helps Buffalo catching up to the Panthers thus improving the quality of the Panthers 1st round pick.

Farrell will watch a few games from the press box and practice with the team before he is set to play his first game...IMO

The federal budget, set for Tuesday, will include a grocery rebate measure aimed at lower income Canadians to help address the affordability crisis, particularly to mitigate the rising cost of food, CBC News has learned.

A senior government official familiar with the budget, but not authorized to speak publicly before the budget is rolled out, told CBC News that the overall cost of the measure is "north of $2 billion" and will benefit 11 million households. It will be facilitated through the GST credit, aimed at lower income families.

"It's being called a grocery rebate," said the source,

If they make a deal, it is because they want to lock him up for the max 8 years.

TBH< I would not give anything up for him at this point - certainly not a top prospect or a 1st round pick. If he wants to come to MTL, he can do it as a free agent without impacting prospect pool / development of the team becoming a contender.

they certainly will have to include something of value. I guess a few prospects.

They should not trade a top prospect or a 1st round pick if he is 95% sure to come to the habs anyway.

Maybe a B level prospect or a 2nd round pick, max.

if you are the Jets, you trade Dubois for the max return. Obviously if he is willing to sign a long term deal only with MTL and the Habs offer is poop, well they will move him else where. They will get a 1st and a prospect for sure, just look at how much a rental like him would get you at the TDL.

If I am the Jets, I ask for the Panthers pick and someone like Harris/Struble/Kidney/Roy.

Obviously the Habs don't have to do anything, they can just wait until the 2024 summer. There is a risk he signs else where, by trading for him conditional to coming to an agreement with him, there is no risk of losing him (if they REALLY want him).

Before they make that trade, Habs will know where they stand for the NHL lottery also, imagine the Panthers end up missing the playoffs and they win the lottery and end up with a 4th or 5th overall pick, that changes things.

so FLA' 1st (assuming they don't win the lottery) and let say Harris, would you do it?
just to jump start the reset by 1 year and the possibility to offer PLD an 8 year deal (instead of a 7 year one).
my guess is HuGo would do it.

I think they do it also because they know they have him, not risking waiting a year and risk him going elsewhere. Dubois turns 25 this summer...he fits the plan

We actually have a plan for my 8 year old son to play in the game.

He's gonna be our 2nd goaltender, sitting on the bench for most of the game.

Our goalie will fake an injury with a few minutes left so he can step in and play.

Should be a very memorable moment for him.

we will know soon enough, the Dubois trade, if he doesn't sign with Winnipeg, will happen this summer

Like you said, winnipeg could trade him around the trade deadline as a pure rental.

Then again, a team might want to do that sooner, even if he ends up being a rental for that team.

I think the org believe in Dach to be honest, which is why they made that trade in the first place. He will get the chance to perform as the 2nd C.

I think mlt will try to get a few top six wingers with skill. Then again, you can always move a C to the wings....

Hughes told Lebrun last week he doesn't plan to sign big UFA names, team is rebuilding, focused on younger talent to speed up the rebuild. He said Habs won't be signing 28yrs old players, doesn't feet the plan

I know that.

But they will draft twice in the first round this summer.
Anyway you put it, they need more skill in their top 6. It is very thin this season.
